Sleepy John Estes
Sleepy John Estes was a Tennessee bluesman whose high, vulnerable voice and deeply personal songwriting set him apart from his Delta contemporaries. He recorded for Victor and Decca in the 1930s, was thought dead, and was rediscovered living in poverty in Brownsville in 1962 -- his comeback records are testaments to endurance and art.
