Thomas A. Dorsey. The Father of Gospel Music. Born in Georgia, started as a blues pianist under the name Georgia Tom, wrote bawdy blues songs. Then he found God and invented modern gospel music. Wrote 'Take My Hand, Precious Lord' after losing his wife and child in childbirth. Dr. King asked for that song to be sung at his funeral hours before he was assassinated. Mahalia Jackson sang it.
