Robert Nighthawk was the missing link between Delta slide guitar and Chicago electric blues -- a player whose tone was so clean and singing it sounded like a human voice. He mentored Ernest Lane and influenced Muddy Waters. His 1960s recordings for Chess and United capture a master at the peak of his understated powers.
